◆ About

Why I Built This

I've been training since 2004, earned my purple belt, and thought I had a solid handle on the game.

Then life happened. I stepped away in 2016 and didn't come back until 2022.

Anyone who's taken a long break knows what that first week back feels like. Your body remembers some things. Your brain remembers less. And the game had evolved — leg locks were everywhere, back takes were more systematic, and the instructional landscape had exploded.

I needed a crash course. Fast.

I bought instructionals. I watched YouTube. But when I was in the middle of a training session and kept getting my back taken, I didn't need a 4-hour course. I needed a quick answer. Something that understood what I was actually asking, not just keywords, but the problem.

That tool didn't exist. So I built it.

What BJJ Search Does

BJJ Search is an AI-powered technique finder that actually understands the language of jiu-jitsu — wrestling, judo, and grappling included.

Type a question the way you'd ask your coach. "I keep getting my back taken." "How do I stop the knee slice?" "Best guard for smaller grapplers." The AI understands what you mean, matches it against a knowledge graph of 500+ techniques and concepts, and surfaces the best videos from the most credible instructors in the world.

It also understands that representation matters. Filter by female instructors to learn from Ffion Davies, Beatriz Mesquita, Ana Mayordomo, and 25+ other elite women who are reshaping the sport.

Who I Am

Brown belt. Training since 2004, based just outside Philadelphia, PA.

I built this for the version of me that came back in 2022 - overwhelmed, hungry, and needing answers fast. If it helps you too, that's everything.
